Victoria Park Golf Club Wedding

This week I’m sharing the awesome Victoria Park Golf Club wedding of Steph & Andrew (Barlow)
These two lovebirds got hitched at St Johns Cathedral in the heart of Brisbane and partied on into the night in The Ball Room at Vic Park Golf Club.
We shared lots of laughs and made some pretty cool memories along the way.
Wedding Date: Sunday 1st of May 2016
Theme: Modern pink glitz and glam
Tell us how you met
We met through a mutual friend, going cruising one night.
I couldn’t take my eyes off him and kept trying to talk to him but he wasn’t in the mood as he had just gotten a speeding ticket!
The next couple of days after he got my msn address from my brother and we didn’t stop talking for weeks and weeks until he finally asked me to be his girlfriend.
We have been together for almost 9 years and still to this day we joke about how he didn’t speak to me on the night we first me, and he says it was because he took one look at me and thought i was “out of his league” haha
The proposal
We were holidaying in America and then for the last leg of the trip we went to the beautiful Hawaii, on the last night of our holiday we went to a restaurant that had huge fish tank in the middle of it, floor to ceiling height! We sat down and had our entree and were watching the fish swim around, when all of a sudden a scuba diver comes in for a fish feeding show, next thing you know he swims right up to the glass where i was sitting and waves at me, then holds up a huge sign saying ’Stephanie will you marry me!’ The whole restaurant started clapping and taking photos of us. After all of the buzz settled, we ate our mains as a mermaid then came into the tank and swam around. After dinner we took a walk along the beach before rushing up to our hotel room to share the news with our family and friends.
The all important Details
Ceremony location: St John’s Cathedral, Brisbane City – Reception Location: Victoria Park function venue, Herston
Gown: Mori Lee, Shoes: Kiara by Badgley Mischka
Wedding bands and engagement rings: We designed our rings and got them hand made by Glenn Worth at Worth Designing Jewellery.
Priest: Iain Moore – Wedding Coordinator: Kellie Carey, Wedding Planner & Event Stylist. Kellie was so lovely. Very easy to talk to. She was constantly emailing back and forth with us trying to help and assist us with making decisions for our reception.
Hair: Our hair was done by the lovely Renee Field at RKF Hair & Makeup.
This girl is my go to hair dresser, so of course it makes sense that i had her do our hair for the engagement party and wedding! We had a trial for my engagement party and Renee got it spot on!
She also trialed two different hairstyles on two of my Bridesmaids at the engagement party so I could see how they looked throughout the night and what i liked better so that we could choose a style for the girls to have on the wedding day.
Renee was so great in the months prior with helping me to get my hair nice and fresh for the wedding!
Hair piece: My lovely Mum bought me such a pretty hair piece from Kate Ketzal and the Bridesmaids also wore a little hair piece from Lovisa.
Bridal Party attire: Bridesmaid dresses were from Gowns of Elegance and shoes from Zu.
The Groom and Groomsmen got their suits, ties and pocket squares from Sugar & Spice and shoes were Julius Marlow
Make-up: Our make-up was done by the beautiful Becci at Becci McIvor Make-up Artistry and Tanning. I had a trial with her for my hens night make-up and was extremely happy! She really took the time to work with me by asking questions that did not even cross my mind when it comes to putting on make-up, she was keen to show different options and test and try out different colours etc before we had decided on the final outcome.
She is such a bright and bubbly person and was always willing to help with any questions that I had.
Flowers: We got our bouquets, button holes, corsages and a bridal table arrangement from the lovely team at Northside Flower Market.
Stationery: We had our invitations made up by Debbie at the Paper Shack. We had some family unity candles and some personalized chocolates made a lovely lady named Vlatka at Personalized and Made By Me.
Our centerpieces and other decorations were from One Stop Wedding Shop and Debbie was such an awesome help with choosing everything.
Cake: Our cake was made by the extremely talented Sarah-Jane at Cake That!
She sat down with us and chatted and took the time to draw up a few different designs that we liked. It was cool because we even got to incorporate some features from our wedding invitations onto the cake. At first it was hard to envision what the cake would look like, but the end product was spectacular!
This is one very gifted, hard working lady and we were so happy that we chose her!
Entertainment: We had some pretty fireworks fountains (gerbs) when we cut our cake and also had an awesome fireworks display from the team at All Fired Up fireworks, and the guests had heaps of fun in our green screen Photo Booth from Elegant Hire.
Music: We had the pleasure of dancing the night away with Jaymes & Dave, an acoustic duo called the Resell Brothers. They are such friendly people, we had used them for a few parties of ours and all of our guests always love them!
Transport: My Dad and I went in his 56 Chevy Bel Air and the Bridal party had a limo from Golden Gate Limousines
Honeymoon
We went to Melbourne for a little getaway for the week after the wedding and experienced all of the awesome restaurants, bars and shopping. We are hoping to go to Japan at the end of the year.
Funniest moment
Barlow: Watching dad do his speech. He was so nervous before it was his turn to speak, and then when he was at the microphone speaking. After a few times from loosing his place in the speech I walked up told him how proud i was and gave him a big hug.
Steph: We were presented a Polish tradition by my parents a cup with vodka and a cup with water, it is said that the one who gets the vodka “wears the pants” in the relationship, it was funny trying to not let the guests know who got what cup.
Favourite Wedding day moment
Barlow: Watching Steph walking down the aisle. She looked so beautiful and I was thinking to myself as she was walking down the isle how lucky I am to be marrying my best friend and soul mate.
Steph: Its hard to pin point just one moment as the whole day was magical.
Walking down the aisle with my dad and having him there to calm my nerves was pretty special. Seeing Barlow standing at the end of the aisle looking very handsome!
I could tell he was filled with mixed emotions and it really made me think that i am so lucky to have him as my soul mate.
I think my overall favourite moment was just being pronounced husband and wife because now I feel like our lives are complete and we can look forward to the next new exciting chapters to come in our lives and grow old together and create more memories with my best friend.
Special thanks to
Our loved ones in Heaven who stopped the rain and brought out lovely blue sky and sunshine right as the wedding bells were ringing as we were walking out of the church as Husband & Wife for the first time.
Thank you to all of the wonderful companies we worked with for for making sure that our day was one to remember.
We would also to thank all of our family and friends in celebrating our wedding day with us, especially those who travelled from interstate and even overseas.
And a massive thank you to our parents who really helped us more than words can even describe, and without them we wouldn’t be the people we are today!
What did you value most about using Ben Clark Photography?
When we first met Ben we walked away from our appointment thinking yep he’s the one!
He was very laid back and friendly. He was very professional on the day with things like carrying umbrellas just in case, and sticking to a time frame to ensure our day ran smoothly.
He was even very helpful with things like telling us to pack drinks and nibbles in the limo for the photo shoot, that thought just skipped our minds in the midst of planning things.
He really went above and beyond for us, offering to take us to another location in his personal car and and getting the limo to drive around the block to pick us up because there was no way i was walking back up all of those stairs in my heels!
But in all seriousness, his professionalism and uniqueness in capturing all of our precious, happy and beautiful moments, he put in a tremendous amount of effort and the passion he put into it was as if he was taking photos of his own wedding day.
You can tell that he puts a lot of thought into each photo that he captures and turns it into a story…. our story!
Advice for brides to be
Don’t stress the small things.
The day goes in the blink of an eye, chances are no one will notice if things don’t go exactly to plan so just concentrate on having fun with your family and friends.
