Brisbane Wedding – Sally & Alex

Brisbane Wedding Photographer Ben Clark

It’s been a crazy wedding season this year so I’m playing catch up on a couple of amazing weddings !

Today I’d love you see Sal & Alex’s awesome Brisbane wedding !

Theme: Simple Elegance/ Black and White

Tell us how you met

We met in high school whilst participating in a musical between our two schools.

The proposal

It all started with asking Pete (Sal’s dad) for his permission. As Pete is a Principal of a school, Alex decided to take time off work to ask him there to reduce the chances of any other family members from finding out.

Unfortunately, Pete was on an excursion with one the classes and Alex had to wait in the school office for a few hours for him to return.

The proposal itself was very simple and very us- dinner at Cloudland then Alex had set up our apartment with Sal’s favourite music to which he proposed, almost forgetting to fetch the ring!

The Details

Ceremony location: Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Coorparoo: Sal’s dad’s school, grandmother’s parish and Alex’s parents were married there too. It was lovely to have so many connections for both of us!

Reception location: Restaurant II.

Gown: Babushka Ballerina- the girls there were great at accommodating my desire to have a shorter dress for the reception. In the end, everything was separates and I only really had to change skirts!

Shoes: Joanne Mercer – Wedding bands and engagement rings: Diamonds International

Priest: Shout out to Fr. Paul Sireh who provided us with a highly personalised and intimate ceremony.

He surprised us by singing the Irish Blessing after communion. He had organised this with our musicians to make it very special. Both of us had to fight back tears!

Wedding Coordinator: Lauren Carr at Restaurant II- what a legend. We had as close to a “stress-free” wedding as you can get thanks to this amazing woman. Nothing was too much trouble and was organised well in advance.

Hair: Our dear friend Kim Devine. It was so lovely to share the morning with Kim and her cracking sense of humour! She was also on hand all day for fix ups!

Hair piece: “Hair Bling” from Mimco

Bridal party attire: The girls’ dresses were from Principessa in Fortitude Valley, however, we had the illusion necklines added by our dressmaker Freda to match Sal’s dress for the ceremony.

Make-up: Blissful Make up. We cannot recommend Karla enough! She is absolutely fantastic, reasonably priced and the girl’s make up stayed in place all day and all night!

Flowers: The Vintage Flower Box. Lia did an amazing job and even set up the reception for us!

Stationery: Minted. An American website, but the quality was fantastic, it was cheaper than going through letterpress places in Brisbane and they have an address assistant facility that imports and prints all of the names and addresses onto all the envelopes for you!

Cake: Sal’s Aunty Maree made our cake. She did an amazing job! Sal’s brother Jack (one of the MCs) joked calling it the papadum cake!

Music: Ceremony- Anna Nielson & Rachael Tiernan as well as the Banmazon String Trio
Reception: Radio Club Band- these guys were fantastic! Everyone was up and dancing. They even accompanied Sal’s brother Tom to sing a song he had written about Sal called “The Dugong Song”- gotta love little brothers right?!

Transport: Kens Classics- Thank you Robyn!

Honeymoon

Tasmania- we drove down along the East Coast stopping if it was pretty, or if it said “Winery”!

Funniest Moment

“The Dugong Song”- Tom had written the song a few months prior to the wedding and released a video of him singing it on Facebook. Most of the wedding guests had seen the video, so when he and Radio Club Band played the song everyone sang along!

Favourite Wedding Day moment: Fr. Paul singing the Irish Blessing. It was such a surprise for us and such a touching and memorable moment- and he has a killer voice!

What did you value most about using Ben Clark Photography

We both were honestly dreading “photo time” at our wedding as we didn’t think we would be very good at posing. But Ben and Lisa were so fun and relaxed at we all almost forgot that they had the cameras out and just enjoyed the time together strolling through Spring Hill!

Due to Riverfire, getting around was pretty crazy, so many of the locations we had discussed just weren’t possible, but Ben was able to suggest great alternatives.

Afterwards, we received our photos very quickly and everyone who has seen them has commented on how amazing they are.

Advice for other brides-to-be

It doesn’t have to be stressful and it doesn’t have to be super expensive. Get organised early on, surround yourself with people you trust and know will support and help you and enjoy the time!
